A calculation method turns the sun's position into prayer times. Methods mostly agree on Dhuhr, Maghrib and sunrise. They differ on Fajr and Isha, which depend on how far the sun is below the horizon, and on Asr. Which method a mosque follows is for the mosque and its scholars to decide. We give no ruling.
What differs
- Fajr and Isha angle. Fixed degrees range from 12° to 20° by region (Fiqh Council of North America). A larger angle gives an earlier Fajr and a later Isha.
- Fixed minutes. Some methods set Isha a fixed time after Maghrib.
- Asr. Pray Times explains: the Shafi'i, Maliki, Ja'fari and Hanbali schools use one shadow length plus the noon shadow, and the Hanafi school two, which is later.
- High latitudes. Twilight can last all night in summer, so methods need a rule.
- Small additions. Countries tune further: AlAdhan notes 1 to 5 minutes.
The 12 methods you can choose
Values from the code of the adhan library we use, read 3 November 2026.
| Name in your dashboard | Fajr | Isha | Other |
|---|---|---|---|
| Muslim World League | 18° | 17° | Dhuhr +1 min |
| Egyptian General Authority | 19.5° | 17.5° | Dhuhr +1 min |
| University of Karachi | 18° | 18° | Dhuhr +1 min |
| Umm al-Qura (Makkah) | 18.5° | 90 min after Maghrib | |
| Dubai | 18.2° | 18.2° | Sunrise -3, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib +3 min |
| Moonsighting Committee | 18° | 18° | Seasonal values, Dhuhr +5, Maghrib +3 min |
| ISNA (North America) | 15° | 15° | Dhuhr +1 min |
| Kuwait | 18° | 17.5° | |
| Qatar | 18° | 90 min after Maghrib | |
| Singapore | 20° | 18° | Dhuhr +1 min, rounded up |
| Tehran | 17.7° | 14° | Maghrib at 4.5° |
| Diyanet (Türkiye) | 18° | 17° | Sunrise -7, Dhuhr +5, Asr +4, Maghrib +7 min |
- Diyanet is an approximation. The library says so, and that it is less accurate outside Turkey. We have not compared it with Diyanet's calendar over a year. If you follow that calendar, enter its times.
- Umm al-Qura in Ramadan. Pray Times lists 120 minutes. Our setting doesn't change by itself, so add 30 minutes to Isha.
- Dubai. AlAdhan says it is not an official calculation.
- ISNA. The Fiqh Council suggests 15° in the USA and 13° in Canada. We offer 15°.
- Moonsighting Committee. Its own method notes explain the seasonal values.
- Not offered: others, such as 12° for France, listed by Pray Times. Enter your own times instead.
How much it changes the time
Berlin, worked out with the same library and settings as our site.

| Diyanet | 06:07 | 17:55 | 03:42 | 22:35 |
In winter the choice can move Fajr by over half an hour. In June most agree, because the angle is never reached in Berlin and the high latitude rule takes over.
Fixed in Salah Point
- Asr uses the earlier time. There is no Hanafi setting yet. Enter your times by date instead.
- The high latitude rule is "seventh of the night". The library recommends it above 48°. Other communities use other rules: IGMG's calendar keeps 1 hour 30 minutes between Maghrib and Isha.
Which should your mosque use?
- Your association or community publishes a calendar: enter it.
- Your scholars already use a method: choose it, compare a week, and adjust each prayer by whole minutes.
- Not sure: ask your local scholar. The default, Muslim World League, is not a recommendation.
Your mosque's page and screen then show the same result.
