# Run your mosque screen on a mini PC

A mini PC behind the TV is a tidy way to run a prayer time screen. What to look for, the power setting that matters most, and what we have not tested.

A mini PC runs the same browser as a normal PC, so set it up as in the [PC or laptop guide](/resources/computer), and add one thing: turn on restart after power loss in its firmware. No particular mini PC has been tested, so we name no model.

## What to look for

- **HDMI output** and a system that runs current Chrome. Windows or Linux both can.
- **Restart after power loss.** This decides whether the screen returns after a power cut. On NUC models it is the BIOS setting "After Power Failure", described in [ASUS's guide](https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1052162/). Other makers use other names, so check before you buy.
- **A clock battery.** Without one, the time can be wrong after a power cut. Ask the seller if the listing doesn't say.
- **An Ethernet port,** if the room has a cable.
- **A mains socket.** Many TV USB ports can't power a computer.

## Setup

1. Follow the [PC or laptop guide](/resources/computer).
2. Turn on restart after power loss in the firmware. The key differs by model. On NUC models it is F2.
3. Let it sign in by itself, with a separate account with little access, because anyone in the room could reach it. Microsoft offers [Autologon](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/autologon).
4. Set [active hours](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/update/waas-restart) so Windows doesn't restart for updates during the day.

## Test it once

Unplug the network, pull the mains plug, plug it back in and touch nothing. The screen should return alone, with your times and a small "Offline" label. If it stops at sign-in or an empty desktop, fix that now.
