# How to make your mosque screen go dark during prayer

Turn on a black screen from the iqama for a length you set per prayer. How long it stays dark, when it comes back, what it needs, and what it does not do.

Open **Prayer room screen**, go to **Around prayer**, and turn on **Dark during prayer**. The screen turns black at each iqama and comes back after the length you set. It works offline, because the screen works it out from its own clock.

## Length per prayer

Set 1 to 120 minutes. These are starting values, not advice:

| Prayer | Unless you change it |
|---|---|
| Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Isha | 10 minutes |
| Maghrib | 8 minutes |
| Friday prayer | 40 minutes |

## When it starts and ends

- **Starts** at the iqama, or at each Friday time on a Friday.
- **Ends** after your length, and always by the next adhan or Friday time.
- **A prayer with no iqama has no dark time.** If nothing happens, check [its iqama](/resources/iqama-times).
- **All your screens** go dark together. If one is off, check that device's clock.

## What you see

Only black: no times, text or [notices](/resources/screen-notice). An adhan recording stops at the iqama. In the dashboard, choose **During prayer** in the preview to see it.

With the setting off, the screen shows the prayer as in progress for 10 minutes, or 30 on a Friday.

## What it doesn't do

- **It doesn't turn the TV off.** A TV showing black still gives some light.
- **It doesn't know when you finish.** A long recitation can outlast your setting, so set a little longer.
- **It is not a ruling.** Questions about screens in the prayer room are for your scholars.

No screen yet? See [the prayer room screen](/mosque-tv-display), or [register your mosque](/register).
